(1954- ) UK television scriptwriter and author, resident for some time in the US, who has also written under the House Name Nicholas Adams, Rick North and John Vincent. He is mostly noted for his influential Doctor Who Ties, beginning with Doctor Who: The Chase (1989), often featuring Daleks; he has also published prolifically in Files Magazine contributing a number of Doctor Who special Spotlight issues. Other tied sequences include several contributions to the Star Trek universe, beginning with Star Trek: The Next Generation #28: Here There Be Dragons (1993); to the Outer Limits universe, beginning with Outer Limits #1: The Zanti Misfits (1997); and some single contributions to other tied enterprises, like The Avengers: Too Many Targets (1990) with Dave Rogers (see The Avengers). Untied series include the Shockers sequence beginning with Shockers: Alien Prey (1993) and ending with Dead End (1994); the Fear the Year 2099 sequence beginning with 2099: Doomsday (1999) and ending with 2099: Firestorm (2000); and the Diadem sequence of fantasies for Young Adult readers beginning with Diadem #1: Book of Names (1997; vt Diadem: Worlds of Magic: Book of Names 2004) and ending with Diadem: Worlds of Magic: Book of Doom (2006).
Peel's fiction singletons are mostly horror, like Talons (1993) and Poison (2004). His nonfiction includes more than one undemanding series of companions to Lost in Space, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and others. [JC]
