(1965-    ) UK author who began publishing work of genre interest with "Digital Cats Come Out Tonight" (in Digital Dreams, anth 1990, ed David V Barrett), and who has since published frequently in Interzone. His novels have been directed to Young Adult markets, and include the His Majesty's Spaceship sequence comprising His Majesty's Spaceship (1998; vt The Ark 2000) and The Xenocide Mission (2002), in which a generally rational human race is brought into an intergalactic Commonwealth full of Alien civilizations, some friendly, some not. Jeapes displays throughout a Xenobiological flair quite evocative of the work of Larry Niven. Singletons include Winged Chariot (2000; vt Time's Chariot 2008), in which a Dystopian Earth, under the control of Time Police, faces the end of temporal stability; and The New World Order (2004), an Alternate History set in a seventeenth-century England invaded by Aliens.

Under the House Name Sebastian Rook he wrote the first three Vampire Plagues tales, London (2004), Paris (2004) and Mexico (2005). He has also ghostwritten nonfantastic children's adventures published under the name of a celebrity who takes sole credit. [JC]
