Originally intended as an episode of the television series Amazing Stories, this film betrays its small-screen origins in its slightness of plot. A run-down rooming house with diner, which occupies land desired by a property speculator, is visited by tiny saucer-shaped Aliens, who help out the residents and two elderly owners, eventually (with their new offspring and other saucers) rebuilding the blown-up premises. Escapist fantasy at best, this has no relationship other than the dubious aliens to genuine sf. The novelization is *batteries not included (1987) by Wayland Drew. [PN]
