(1956-    ) Canadian teacher of computer science and author who began to publish work of genre interest with "Jazz Fantasia" in On Spec for Winter 1993, most of his subsequent work being horror, much of it (including his first story under the vt "Jazz Threnody") being assembled as Horror Story and Other Horror Stories (coll 2009). He is of sf interest primarily for Nexus (2004 ebook; vt Nexus: Ascension 2010), a Space Opera set in a galaxy where Earth is not mentioned; the protagonists, returning to their home planet after a long period in Cryonic Suspended Animation, find it has been desolated by plague. The team splits up to visit various Nexus centres – Nexus being a kind of Galactic Empire united through Telepathy – where vital information is gained, and what remains of their home is salvaged. The Spheres of the Apostles sequence – comprising The Book of Thomas: Volume One: Heaven (2012) and The Book of David (2015) – Equipoisally juxtaposes sf and metaphysical fantasy through its setting, which seems to be either a vast Space Habitat or a World Ship founded by the Catholic Church and inhabited by angels crafted through exercises in Genetic Engineering.
