Cosmic Speculative Fiction

Entry updated 20 December 2011. Tagged: Publication.

US downloadable E-Zine originally circulated, by subscription only, as an attachment to an e-mail. It was produced by Edward McFadden and appeared twice yearly from Spring 2004 to Winter 2006, totalling 5 issues, each of between 22-30 pages long, featuring 3 or four stories per issue. A planned print edition of the first issue and a planned omnibus of the first four issues has not eventuated. The third issue (Spring 2005) was produced in conjunction with Padwolf Publishing and was also issue #2 of Padwolf Presents, edited by Diane Raetz. Issue #1 of Padwolf Presents, Fall 2002, had been a slim Print Magazine issued as a sampler of stories by authors published by Padwolf, and this continued in issue #2, which was thus a separate sequence to the other four issues of Cosmic. Those issues presented solid stories with the emphasis on storytelling and ingenuity and began with the intriguing "The Man Who Walked to Procyon" (Spring 2004) by Don D'Ammassa. Other contributors of note included Ardath Mayhar with the action-packed "Pursuit" (Fall 2005 #4) and C J Henderson with a neat Club Story "Do You Believe?" (Winter 2006 #5). None of the issues gained widespread circulation or recognition, though they are eminently readable and, had they been published as a single magazine issue or anthology, may well have raised greater interest.
