Fantasy Entries

Entry updated 9 October 2021. Tagged: Prelim.

Previous editions of The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction included a number of entries for authors whose genre output consists entirely of indisputable Fantasy, or whose few short sf stories would not have warranted an entry in the absence of more substantial works of fantasy, Horror or supernatural fiction in their bibliographies. Most such entries – excepting authors like J R R Tolkien whose influence has clearly extended into sf – would with hindsight have been reserved for the complementary volume The Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1997; rev 1999) edited by John Clute and John Grant, had this project then existed or been projected. Nevertheless, past editions' fantasy entries are retained in the current version to preserve the encyclopedia's historical context, and are marked by a link to this note in their "see also" references.
