Two inept maintenance workers at a Rocket launching facility are loading materials into a rocket; the less intelligent one, Junior (Denver) pushes the launch control, sending himself and his companion Barney (McCann) into space. They visit various planets in each episode and have unlikely adventures while always trying to return to earth. Along the way they pick up a short, furry Alien, Honk (Maloney), who communicates by honking through a short horn protruding from his (or her) head; this creature's exact nature was never really explained.
A less-remembered genre effort from the Kroft Brothers, Far Out Space Nuts was reportedly a last-minute replacement for a cancelled animated series. Bob Denver had gained fame, and notoriety as the equally inept shipwrecked sailor on the inane series Gilligan's Island (1964-1967). He essentially played the same character in other television programmes for the rest of his life. [GSt]
