(?1955- ) US author of works about Cinema and Television, and also screenwriter, who began publishing in the early 1970s in The Monster Times and similar Media Magazines. His Fantastic Television: A Pictorial History of Sci-Fi, the Unusual and the Fantastic from Captain Video to the Star Trek Phenomenon and Beyond (1977) with Paul H Schulman was the first book to feature episode guides to Fantasy and sf television programmes, previously found only in magazines. Series covered with episode guides include The Adventures of Superman (1952-1958) (see Superman), One Step Beyond (1959-1961), The Twilight Zone (1959-1964), The Outer Limits (1963-1965) and Space: 1999 (1975-1977). Briefer essays deal with such further productions as The Addams Family (1964-1966) (see Charles Addams), I Dream of Jeannie (1965-1970), The Second Hundred Years (1967-1968), and various animated and live-action juvenile series. Although both dated and made redundant by the plethora of information now available online, the book was an important milestone in relevant nonfiction. Gerani's screenwriter credits include Vampirella (1996) (see Vampirella) directed by Jim Wynorski. [GSt/DRL]
