(1955- ) US author, almost exclusively of fiction for younger children and the Young Adult market. The long My Weird School series of picture books frequently verges on the fantastic [it is not listed below]. He is of some sf interest for the Baseball Card Adventures series, beginning with Honus & Me (1997), whose young protagonist finds that his Baseball cards work as Time Machines to transport him back to when baseball players featured on those cards were active; this first volume was adapted for Television as The Winning Season (2004) directed by John Kent Harrison. Each successive volume in the sequence is named – as in Babe & Me (2000) and Shoeless Joe & Me (2002) – after the player visited. The Funny Boy series beginning with Funny Boy Meets the Airsick Alien from Andromeda (1999) is designed for younger readers. The Edison Mystery (2001; vt Back in Time with Thomas Edison 2002), the first volume of the Qwerty Stevens Adventures sequence, is another Time Travel tale, in this case involving Thomas A Edison in 1879, who must devise a means of returning Qwerty and his sister to the present.
