H.P. Lovecraft's Magazine of Horror

Entry updated 10 July 2023. Tagged: Publication.

US Semiprozine available as a Print Magazine for its first four issues (Spring 2004 to Spring/Summer 2007) but only as a downloadable Online Magazine for its final issue (Spring 2009). Published by Wildside Press from Rockville, Maryland, and edited by Marvin Kaye. Of the print issues, all were letter-size except the third (actually #2), Spring 2005 which was standard size (see Magazines). The second print issue was an interim number #1.5 (Fall 2004). The magazine was a companion to Weird Tales, which it closely resembled. It ran fiction inspired by the works of H P Lovecraft, some of these stories forming part of the Cthulhu Mythos Shared World. It featured work by many writers not immediately associated with Lovecraftian fiction, including Elizabeth Bear, Esther M Friesner, Jay Lake, Tanith Lee, Morgan Llywelyn, Richard Matheson and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro; while the stories all had a frisson of Horror, only a few carried the cosmic vision inherent in most of Lovecraft's work.
