(1958-    ) UK Radio and Television scriptwriter, comedian, singer and author; his early novels, which are written for adults, tend to set intricate noirish plots in the mean streets of London, a city he uses in later work [these novels are not listed below]. He is of some interest for his Young Adult Young Bond series beginning with SilverFin (2005), though these episodes from the youth of James Bond tend only to press against the fringes of the fantastic. Of more direct sf interest is the Enemy sequence beginning with The Enemy (2009; vt The Enemy: Geeks vs Zombies 2013 ebook), also Young Adult and set in a London whose adult population, transformed into Zombies by a deadly plague, wage incoherent but deadly war on unaffected adolescents. The series is marked by sharp depictions of its large cast, and a ruthlessness about killing many of them off unusual in fiction for this audience. Monstroso (2010) fairly spoofishly describes the creation of a warrior Robot through commands fed into an ancient Computer. [JC]
