(1943-    ) UK poet and author, who began publishing sf for Robert Hale Limited with the Annals of Lavandrei sequence comprising The Well of Time (1981), The Lords of Hate (1997) and Conspiracy of the Dead (2004), Space Opera adventures consistent with Hale's requirements. In the Melgor Erdin sequence comprising No Space in Time (2002) and Tower Beyond Time (2003) Erdin, who has dislocated time-space in the first volume, attempts to restore matters in the second, an endeavour involving various Alternate Worlds, Time Travel and the End of Time. Of Light's children's fiction, The Flower (2004) movingly depicts the life of its young protagonist in a bleak Near Future City. An anthology, Mystery of the City (anth 1997) focuses on similar venues. Much of his own Poetry is sf.

Light also published a useful annual listing of Small Press periodicals, Light's List of Literary Magazines, which appeared from 1986 to 2007 (all but the last being from his own Photon Press) but is currently in suspension. [JC]
