Monster Parade

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.

Cinema Magazine, letter-size and saddle-stapled, published on newsprint-quality paper by Magnum Publications. Four issues, September 1958 to March 1959. Editor: M J Shapiro.

While Monster Parade was nominally a film magazine, a high percentage of its contents were very short Horror stories mixed with coverage of the films and Television programmes of the era. The most notable authors to appear in its pages were Lawrence Block, Lou Cameron, John Jakes and Dan Malcolm. Given the poor quality of paper and the fact the publication did not sell well, issues are difficult to locate and command high prices when offered for sale. Collectors should note that Monster Parade apparently continued from an as yet unidentified publication which would explain the initially odd volume numbers. These ranged from Volume Two, Number Six on the first issue to Vol One, Number Four on the last. Covers were garish for the period, sometimes using photo-collages instead of artwork. [GSt]
