Letter-size saddle-stapled Cinema magazine printed on slick paper. Publisher: Gogos Entertainment. Editor: Stephen D Smith. Eleven issues 1992 to 1997; publication was nominally quarterly but in fact erratic.
Acclaimed illustrator Gogos, who had gained considerable renown during the 1960s for his covers for Famous Monsters of Filmland, here tried his hand at a similar Media Magazine. Launching as Monster Scene Journal, it became simply Monsterscene from the second issue. Featured material included pieces on Forrest J Ackerman, Christopher Lee (1922-2015) and the frequent Hammer Films star Ingrid Pitt. Gogos painted the covers for all issues, plus a bonus Monster portrait in each copy; the latter are much prized by collectors. Unfortunately the magazine was unable to compete with modern mainstream Horror coverage by such publications as Fangoria (see Starlog), and ceased after a disappointingly short run. [GSt/DRL]
