The National Fantasy Fan Federation, formed in the USA in 1941; this was the brain-child of Damon Knight, who called for it in a Fanzine article titled "Unite – or Fie!" (October 1940 Fanfare ed Art Widner). After a succession of short-lived and factional US fan associations in the 1930s, the N3F proved a stable and enduring national organization. However, despite its long existence, it has maintained a relatively low level of membership and activity and has had no great influence on Fandom in general. The N3F continues to publish The National Fantasy Fan, a newsletter which first appeared under the title Bonfire in 1941, and various other Fanzines such as Tightbeam (since 1960; initially Hyperspace Tightbeam). Recent issues and many older ones are archived online at the N3F website [see links below]. [PR/DRL]
