In this lively thriller, Crichton's directorial debut, an extremist politician prepares to use a nerve-gas chemical Weapon capable of killing millions during a San Diego Republican convention, in order to assassinate the American President. His plan to exploit the psychological profile of the main government agent on his trail (see Psychology) is ultimately gamed in return by the agent, and the plot fails. [PN/JC]
