Reel Fantasy

Entry updated 19 December 2017. Tagged: Publication.

Letter-size Cinema magazine, saddle-stapled and printed on newsprint-quality paper. Editor: Frank Verzyl. One issue only, January 1978, published by Reel Fantasy Incorporated.

One of several sf and Fantasy film magazines which appeared on US newsstands in the wake of Star Wars (1977), this publication featured some reasonable-quality material despite poor production values. Coverage included the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), the fantasy film Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) and an interview with film producer Charles H Schneer (see Ray Harryhausen). So many publishers attempted to exploit the sudden popularity of sf and fantasy cinema in this period that most of these bandwagon titles were effectively invisible and quickly folded. [GSt]
