(?   -    ) US author who studied at the 2010 San Diego Clarion Science Fiction Writers' Workshop as the Octavia E Butler scholar, and began to publish work of genre interest with "«Légendaire.»" in Bloodchildren: Stories by the Octavia E. Butler Scholars (anth 2013 ebook) edited by Nisi Shawl. Wilson's first book-length work was The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps (2015), a richly told seeming Science-Fantasy adventure in which a small band – whose captain and "sorcerer" both possess limited Superpowers – undertakes a quest through dangerous territory. The tale's sf underpinnings are quietly indicated: the location is Post-Holocaust Africa in a Far Future long after Posthuman "gods" have departed for the stars; the special abilities of the lead characters are explicable in terms of their "divine" ancestors' physical enhancement through Genetic Engineering. Despite this sf rationale, The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps won the Crawford Award for best first Fantasy novel. The novella A Taste of Honey (2016) is an engaging gay love story set in the same universe. [DRL]
