(1946-2024) Welsh author, exclusively of short fiction, who began to publish work of genre interest with "The Way to London Town" in New Worlds for July 1966; he was intermittently active in Fandom from 1965. Never prolific, he published some three dozen stories in SF Magazines and Original Anthologies from 1966 to 2018. Two have appeared in translation as by David Reed, an error rather than an intended pseudonym. Notable stories include "The House on Hollow Mountain" (May 1982 F&SF), a tale of benevolent Alien intervention distantly reminiscent of the Sector General stories by James White, and the nightmarish War allegory "On the Deck of the Flying Bomb" (Spring 1983 Interzone). Most of his output – including one previously unpublished story – is assembled in Collected Stories (coll 2018). Redd was an engaging writer who long seemed deserving of a breakthrough work that somehow never appeared. [DRL]
