(1958-    ) Japanese artist of Manga and book covers, best known for her Illustration work on Rieko Yoshihara's erotically-charged novel Ai no Kusabi (October 1987-October 1990 Shōsetsu June; 1990; trans as The Space Between 2007), likely to have been the main impetus behind her Seiun Award for Art in 1990. Condray, Bruno G

Pseudonym of UK author Leslie George Humphrys (1921-2015), of whom nothing is known beyond his possible authorship of Odyssey in Space (1953), as by Vektis Brack, which was a House Name for Gannet Press; and of the Condray tales The Dissentizens (1954 chap) and Exile from Jupiter (1955 chap). [JC]

Clute, John

(1940-    ) Canadian critic, editor and author, in the UK from 1969; married to Judith Clute from 1964, partner of Elizabeth Hand since 1996. His first professional publication was the long sf-tinged poem "Carcajou Lament" (Winter 1960 [ie Autumn 1959] Triquarterly), though he only began publishing sf reviews in 1964 and sf proper with "A Man Must Die" in New Worlds for November 1966, where much of his earlier criticism also appeared.
