Anson, August
Pseudonym of UK author Reginald William Malyon Gibbs (1878-1942), who under his own name published numerous mathematics references and textbooks. His sf novel as by Anson, When Woman Reigns (1938), transports its protagonist to first the twenty-sixth and then the thirty-sixth century. Author and hero take a rather dim view of these two periods, because in both men are subservient to women (see Feminism). [JC]
Stewart, Jean
(1953- ) US author of the Women of Isis sf sequence, beginning with Return to Isis (1992) and ending (in mid-narrative) with Return to Isis (1992). Noll, Arthur Howard
(1855-1930) US author of In Quest of Aztec Treasure (1911) with Bourdon Wilson, a Lost World tale set in Mexico; he also wrote A Short History of Mexico (1890), and other studies of that land. [JC]
Sapiro, Leland
(1924-2013) US critic and Fanzine editor, active in Fandom since 1962. He is best known for editing and publishing Riverside Quarterly (which see), which ran from 1964 to 1993 and whose content leant towards that of an Academic Journal. (1973- ) Canadian author whose third novel, The Last Neanderthal (2017), combines a Prehistoric SF narrative – whose Neanderthal protagonist finds herself intimately involved with a Homo sapiens male as the weather worsens – with the twenty-first century story of a pregnant archaeologist who, 40,000 years later, discovers her ancestor's bones.
