Freedman, Nancy
(1920-2010) US actress and author whose sf novel, Joshua Son of None (1973), one of the earliest novels to deal with cloning (see Clones), depicts the intrigue surrounding the childhood and adolescence of Joshua Francis Kellogg, cloned in 1963 from the body of John F Kennedy. The Immortals (1976) is borderline sf. [JC]
Hoornaert, Edward
(1981- ) Belgian author, now in the USA, who began publishing work of genre interest with "Devil, Devil" for On Spec in 2000; and whose sf novel, The Trial of Tompa Lee (2005), is, unusually for Military SF, a courtroom drama, set on an Alien planet. The spunky young protagonist manages to defend herself in the end against unjust charges. [JC]
Dante, Joe
(1946- ) US film-maker. Originally a fan writer, Dante entered the film industry working for Roger Corman's New World in the trailers department, making Filipino movies look more exciting by inserting stock shots of exploding helicopters. (? - ) US author of sf interest for his Steampunk tale Frankenstein: The Illuminatus Complex (2012), in which Captain Nemo (see Jules Verne) identifies with the Frankenstein Monster (see Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; Or the New Prometheus, 1818) and searches for him ...
Nayman, Ira
(? - ) US author and editor who began to publish work of genre interest with Alternate Reality Ain't What It Used to Be (coll 2008), opening the sf Humour sequence The Alternate Reality News Service that continued with What Were Once Miracles Are Now Children's Toys (coll 2010); there are further self-published volumes. Robinson, Roger
(1943- ) UK computer programmer, bibliographer and publisher, active in UK Fandom for many years.
