Tagged: Artist.

(1875-1911) Lithuanian artist and composer whose paintings blended original fantasy and poetic imagery and have had considerable influence on Lithuanian culture. His best works, done 1907-1909, include cycles of Fairytales and grand compositions in which he strove to penetrate the secrets of life and the Universe; these are his "sonatas" of The Sun, The Serpent, The Pyramids and The Stars. Other works set out to transcend mundane existence – e.g., Rex, Demon, Prelude and The Fairytale of the Castle – while in paintings like Fantasy: Triptych, Angel: Prelude and The City: Prelude he depicts fantasy landscapes and worlds.
