Tagged: Author.

(1863-1942) US architect, prominently involved in the revival of Gothic architecture. His solitary book of Ghost Stories, Black Spirits and White (coll 1895), is among the better of its kind. Most of the stories are of Haunted Dwellings and are highly atmospheric, drawn with an architect's perception for light and shadow. One nonfantasy tale, The Dead Valley (1895; 1984 chap), was especially admired by H P Lovecraft. [MA]

other works: Excalibur (1895), a long Arthurian poem.
