de Morgan, William
Tagged: Author.
(1839-1917) UK writer; also a designer of pottery and stained glass, long involved with William Morris. His six novels came late in his life. Two are Supernatural Fictions of some interest. In Alice-for-Short: A Dichronism (1907) an orphan is rescued from poverty through proper interpretation of the behaviour of two Ghosts who re-enact a murder, Revenant-fashion. In A Likely Story a fairly unusual painter-and-model scenario is enacted. His sister Mary de Morgan (1850-1907) was a talented writer of Fairytales; her best were collected as The Necklace of Princess Fiorimonde (coll 1880) and The Windfairies (coll 1900). [JC]
