Butner, Richard

(?   -    ) US author who began to publish work of genre interest with "Saving the World" (1989 Scream) and whose speculative short fiction has since appeared in such venues as Electric Velocipede, F&SF, Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, Say ... and Sci Fiction. Horses Blow Up Dog City & Other Stories (coll 2004 chap) assembles two new and three previously published tales; the title story is set in a Near Future dominated by Virtual Reality, a toxic world haunted, in a way that evokes the Media Landscape nightmares of Philip K Dick, by an anguish-inducing ex-puppeteer ghost. The Adventurists and Other Stories (coll 2022) assembles new and old material. With John Kessel and Mark L Van Name he edited Intersections: The Sycamore Hill Anthology (coll 1996). [DRL]
