Cameron, Lou

(1924-2010) US illustrator and author, active in the 1950s and 1960s in such Comic books as The Beyond and Classics Illustrated. He was a highly prolific author of Westerns, under his own name and under various pseudonyms. He began to publish short fiction of genre interest with "The Last G. I." in Real War for October 1958; his sf, which was unremarkable, included two Swinging Spy tales – The Spy with the Blue Kazoo (1967) and The Spy Who Came in from the Copa (1967) as by Dagmar (the actress Dagmar [1921-2001] was a personal friend); and Cybernia (1972) under his own name, which expresses Computer Paranoia through the tale of a town in the grips of a mad brain. The Darklings (1975), as by Julie Cameron, is fantasy. [JC]
