(? - ) US-born teacher, journalist and author, in Canada from around 1995; her first novel, Permissions (2013), is nonfantastic. A critical anthology, The Uses of Utopia: New Marxist, Anarchist, and Radical Democratic Perspectives (anth 2017) with James D Ingram, reflects her central preoccupation as an academic with twentieth-century European Utopian thought. She is of sf interest for her second novel, The Eyelid (2020), set in a surreal Near Future world (see Absurdist SF) where Greater Paris exercises hegemony over Europe and America, prohibiting sleep across its vast domain, because sleep is defined as a Drug that inhibits productivity, and is moreover subversive of the realm. Throughout the text there is a sense of muscular Equipoise, with various versions of the world consorting without submission to any overriding or default reality; sf topoi permeate but do not define the whole.
