Famous Monsters Do-It-Yourself Make-Up Handbook

US letter-size perfect-bound Media Magazine printed on newsprint-quality paper. Publisher: Warren Publishing. No editor named. One unnumbered issue only, 1965.

This special Monster make-up effects publication was written by the visual effects master Dick Smith as a step-by-step guide for the young audience of Famous Monsters of Filmland and similar publications on how to transform themselves into assorted creatures. Copiously illustrated with black-and-white photographs, the title sold well; owing to poor paper quality, copies in good condition are now scarce. Unusually, it contained no advertisements. The handbook was republished in paperback form as Dick Smith's Do-It-Yourself Monster Make-Up Handbook (1985; rev 1990). [GSt/DRL]
