(? - ) US editor and author in whose first novel, John Abernathy You Are Kind (2023), unfolds in a Dystopian Near Future world not much distinct from suburb-dominated solitudinous contemporary America, in which debts are inheritable, all of which she describes with a sharp Satirical edge. The titular Abernathy has been employed by a secretive surveillance-obsessed corporation as a Dream Hacker, entering the dream landscapes of distressed sleepers and swabbing them clear of trauma. Exercises in coercion on the part of his owner/employers soon become central. None of the sf language utilized by the author is intended to clear the air. [JC]
