Metcalf, Norm

(1937-2019) US fan, collector and bibliographer whose The Index of Science Fiction Magazines 1951-1965 (1968) is a sequel to Index to the Science Fiction Magazines 1926-1950 (1952) by Donald B Day, and covers the same ground as the computerized index for the same years edited by Erwin S Strauss (though without the latter's issue-by-issue contents listing). It should be remembered that one or other of these works used to be essential to the serious sf researcher in times before they were superseded by online compilations. Metcalf was also active in Fandom and involved with several APAs including FAPA, OMPA and SAPS. He was the anonymous editor of the Sherlock Holmes-themed The Science-Fictional Sherlock Holmes (anth 1960), published by fellow fan Robert C (Bob) Peterson. [PN/DRL]
