Nations, Opal L

(1941- ) UK-born author, in Canada for many years, active from the end of the 1960s and beginning to publish work of genre interest with "Juan Fortune" for New Worlds in January 1969. The first of his many 1970s volumes (all short) was Hummi Ground (Part One) (1971 chap). Three of the physically more substantial titles from this period are: 10 Pieces from "The Opal Land of the Angels" (coll 1971 chap), which contains stories whose incessant surrealism incorporates sf elements (see Absurdist SF); Screen-Teen: A Collection of Poems and Other Works 1970-1972 (coll 1972 chap), which contains the long "Eddie & I (Found Piece from a Journal)", whose brilliant protagonist, medically stunted at the foetus stage, has Telepathic powers; and Extracts from Stanley and Tie-Tars: Le Roman Absurde and How to Destroy It (1971 chap), which contains elements of Satire. Nation published relatively little between 1980 and 2010, but with Mr Body (2011 chap) and A Cornucopia (coll 2012) became much more active again. [JC]
