US Online Magazine of sf and Fantasy, published by Scott T Barnes with Susan Shell Winston as its primary editor. Quarterly, December 2017 to current.
NewMyths covers an eclectic range of topics, its best-of Anthologies being divided by theme rather than by year: these include dreams and supernatural experiences, eras coming to an end, and non-human awareness [see Checklist below]. Range is maintained by balancing light with serious tones, the bizarre with the mundane, novelettes with Flash Fiction. Much of what is published contains elements of Horror, including Scott T Barnes's own "Fire Bugs" (Spring 2025).
Despite mostly releasing prose, NewMyths is best known for its poetry, having featured several poets associated with the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association, including Bruce Boston, Marge Simon, and John Reinhart. This success may be attributed to the $50 dollar pay floor which makes it a competitive poetry market among Semiprozines. "The Bookstore" (Fall/Winter 2021) by Beth Cato won a Rhysling Award for best long form poem.
Non-fiction consists largely of book reviews of recently published works. NewMyths elevates authors of less renown by exploring their works alongside those of more established peers, including Brandon Sanderson, Neal Stephenson, Adrian Tchaikovsky. One or two essays appear in each issue. These often explore scientific topics, such as the demotion of Pluto (see Outer Planets) to a dwarf planet and the discovery of other solar systems. [JM]
