Super Star Heroes

US letter-size Cinema magazine printed on a mix of newsprint and slick paper. Publisher: Ideal Publishing Corporation. No editor named. Eleven issues from October 1978 to January 1980. Publication schedule was nominally bimonthly, but in fact somewhat erratic.

Ideal Publishing entered the sf cinema market with this title of middling quality, which managed to survive longer than many similar publications of the period. During its run it generally covered standard productions of the era, such as the films Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Meteor (1979) and Superman (1978). Television programmes discussed included Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979-1981), Doctor Who (1963-current), The Incredible Hulk (1978-1982) and Mork & Mindy (1978-1982), along with some now largely forgotten series such as Struck by Lightning (1979). Interviews with Stan Lee and performer Lou Ferrigno also appeared. Super Star Heroes #2 came with a pull-out poster of Superman which is often missing from surviving copies. [GSt/DRL]
