Ziegler, Rob

(?   -    ) US author whose Near Future sf novel, Seed (2011), depicts an America devastated by Ecological degradation and Climate Change, and under the sway of an AI – an entity evolved into a living Keep out of the ruins of Denver – which controls Agriculture through Genetically Engineered seed, and society in generally through genetically engineered transhuman Clones. The world depicted is clearly influenced by some stories assembled in Paolo Bacigalupi's Pump Six and Other Stories (coll 2008), in particular "The Calorie Man" (October/November 2005 F&SF). More important perhaps than this resemblance is a sensation that both constructions of the near future, pace exorbitances of storyline, depend on plausible extrapolations of the nature of the near future agribusiness world.
