McAulty, Todd

Tagged: Author

(?   -    ) Canadian author who began publishing work of genre interest with "The Haunting of Cold Harbour" in Black Gate for Winter 2002. He is of sf interest for his first novel, The Robots of Gotham (2018), set in a moderately distant Near Future America, subjugated and balkanized and occupied by foreigners: all this seemingly due to the American government's earlier banning of AI, leaving the land vulnerable to AI-controlled Robot Invasions. In 2083, an exploited America – Manhattan or Gotham (see New York) is for instance ruled by a robot monarchy – is at risk of plague, incursions of rogue armies, and other perils. The protagonist light-heartedly fights back; McAulty's Satirical stabs are intermittently overlit, but amusing. [JC]
