(? - ) New Zealand journalist, playwright and author, in London from 2008, whose first novel, Theatre of the Gods [for subtitle see Checklist below] (2013), describes in a goofish gonzo idiom, complete with author's and editor's notes and obfuscations, its protagonist's Fantastic Voyage into other Dimensions, with a crew of children helping operate his Steampunk "ship"; the style of the tale is manifestly influenced by Douglas Adams. Suddain's second novel, Hunters & Collectors (2016), which occupies similar territory, takes for at least part of its length the form of a Travel Guide, Adams's influence being detectable here as well, though Suddain's humour tends to focus more on funny words: his protagonist, a peripatetic food critic, runs across amusing dishes in restaurants across the universe.
