(1895-1978) Working name of English-born author Ernest George Alligan [sic], who was MP for Gravesend 1945-1947 and was notoriously expelled from Parliament for breach of Parliamentary privilege in 1947; he thereafter lived and wrote in South Africa. His imaginary history, written as from the year 1987, Verwoerd – The End: A Lookback from the Future (1961), argues for a benevolently administered apartheid. [JC/MA]
