US Comics publisher founded in 1939 by Benjamin W Sangor, based in New York and at first informally known as the Sangor Shop. It operated as ACG from 1948 to 1967 and ceased as an independent publisher in 1968. Titles with entries in this encyclopedia are: Adventures into the Unknown; Commander Battle and the Atomic Sub; Forbidden Worlds; Operation: Peril; Out of the Night; and Skeleton Hand.
ACG's best-known character was the highly atypical Absurdist SF comic Superhero Herbie Popnecker, created by Richard E Hughes and Ogden Whitney, who debuted in Forbidden Worlds #73 (December 1958), made four further appearances in that comic (the last two featuring him on the cover), and was promoted to his own ACG title Herbie (1964-1967, 24 issues), a comic praised as "sublime" by Alan Moore.
