Entry updated 24 February 2023. Tagged: Author, Editor.

(1947-2023) US author and editor who created a number of graphic works based on various media productions, comprising many stills from a film or Television series captioned with scripted dialogue and stage directions. A particularly valuable reference from before the videotape boom is James Whale's Frankenstein (graph 1974), with over 1000 stills captioned with the complete dialogue transcribed from the soundtrack of Frankenstein (1931) directed by James Whale. Another genre example from The Film Classics Library sequence is Rouben Mamoulian's Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (graph 1975).

Later "Photonovels", with stills captioned in Comic-book fashion, were perhaps more for entertainment than for reference. In 1979 Anobile published three such graphic Ties to sf works: Alien: The Movie Novel (graph 1979), Battlestar Galactica: The Photostory (graph 1979) with Glen A Larson and Mork & Mindy: A Video Novel (graph 1979), respectively based on Alien (1979), the film Battlestar Galactica (1978), and Mork & Mindy (1978-1982). Further relevant titles include "Fotonovel" treatments of the first two Star Trek films as Star Trek: The Motion Picture (graph 1980) and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (graph 1982). [DRL]
