(1922-1987) UK Cinema publicist and author who in the former capacity worked on the promotion of Billion Dollar Brain (1967) (see Len Deighton), Phase IV (1974), Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Brazil (1985), Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) (see Sherlock Holmes; Steven Spielberg; Steampunk) and other genre or genre-adjacent films. Of direct sf interest was his first book, the nonfiction Once Upon a Galaxy: A Journal of the Making of Star Wars – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), whose title is self-explanatory. Arnold also novelized the Young Sherlock Holmes screenplay by Chris Columbus, as Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). [DRL]
