Mexican film (1964). Estudios Churubasco. Directed by Miguel Zacarias. Written by Roberto Gómez Bolaños (story) and Zacarias (screenplay). Cast includes Erna Martha Bauman, Marco Antonio Campos, Gaspar Henaine, Norma Mora, and Gina Romand. 85 minutes. Black and white.
The ruler of the female-dominated society of Venus (Bauman), confronting complaints by its oppressed men, decides to send two women (Mora, Romand) to Earth to find men who can better serve Venus. After arriving, they implausibly focus their attention on two inept musicians – the comedy team of Viruta and Capulina (Campos and Henaine) – as ideal candidates, and periodically interact with them while miraculously appearing and disappearing as the comedians engage in mildly humorous business. The men are also threatened by hideous beings from Mars, but defeat them by using a Venusian Weapon that causes paralysis. Eventually, the musicians travel into space, marry the two women, and will presumably go on to assume some sort of leadership role on Venus.
This inane film has little to say about the future of Space Flight, except for a brief opening sequence in which women from Venus in a flying saucer (see UFOs) face opposition from a Martian ship, with crew members apparently wearing spacesuits (see Spacesuit Films). The film was reportedly completed in 1960 but not released until 1964, suggesting its low quality. [GW]
