Avon Science Fiction and Fantasy Reader
Entry updated 21 August 2012. Tagged: Publication.
US Digest-size magazine, two issues in 1953, published by Avon Books; edited by Sol Cohen. A hybrid successor to the Avon Fantasy Reader and Avon Science Fiction Reader, the Avon Science Fiction and Fantasy Reader series started a year after those had ceased publication and had a different policy, concentrating on original stories rather than reprints. Issues were also illustrated and book reviews were included emphasizing that this incarnation was more a Magazine than an Anthology. The stories, which included work by John Christopher, Arthur C Clarke, Milton Lesser and Jack Vance were generally bleaker and more representative of post-war fears and concerns than either of its predecessors.
