(1971-    ) Australian author who began publishing work of genre interest with "The First and Final Game" in Altair for August 2000, which appeared with other ambitious, complexly couched early work in A Book of Endings (coll 2009). The Bad Power (coll of linked stories 2011), presents a linked cast of Australians, their lives otherwise unconnected, who must learn to deal with their Superpowers, an affliction or benefit whose broad impact on their native land may edge readers to the presumption that an Alternate History is being described, though even "Bad Power", set earlier than its companions, seems to provide no Jonbar Point.

Thematically similar but otherwise unconnected, the Young Adult Zeroes sequence beginning with Zeroes (2015), all stories written collaboratively with Margo Lanagan and Scott, features a group by choice [for Seven Samurai see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below] whose insincerely derided Superpowers make them into a concordat, though roiled by teenage interaction problems, plus the inherent obstacle that they only super in bits in the face of an unsympathetic world. The sequence, which darkens noticeably at points, ends with a chastened reunion of the game crew. [JC]
