(?   -    ) US author who began to publish nonfiction of genre interest with "Stranger Than Science Fiction: Into the Alternate Dimension of Mainstream Literature" in Clarkesworld for May 2010. He has since released three book-length, media-oriented nonfiction studies. Luke Skywalker Can't Read: And Other Geeky Truths (coll 2015) assembles quirky and often tongue-in-cheek essays on a number of cult creations, Icons and franchises including Barbarella (1968), Doctor Who (1963-current), Dracula (see Bram Stoker), The Lord of the Rings (1954-1955 3vols) (see J R R Tolkien), Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek and Star Wars. As indicated by their titles, Phasers on Stun!: How the Making (and Remaking) of Star Trek Changed the World (2022) has a tighter focus on the Star Trek phenomenon, while The Spice Must Flow: The Story of Dune, from Cult Novels to Visionary Sci-Fi Movies (2023) examines the very considerable Dune franchise that developed from Frank Herbert's Dune (fixup 1965). Both are appreciative and insightful. [DRL]
