(1979- ) US illustrator and author whose Wild Robot fiction sequence beginning with The Wild Robot (2016) combines Children's SF with Animal Fantasy [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below]. The central character is a female Robot whose Transportation box is initially washed up on the shore of an Island, and is inadvertently activated by local animals with whom she learns to live and communicate, learning their language (see Linguistics) and despite early misunderstandings becoming part of their community until reclaimed by her corporate owners in the outside world. The tale has considerable charm. Sequels followed [see Checklist below] and the first book was adapted as the animated film The Wild Robot (2024) directed and written by Chris Sanders.
He should not be confused with the UK artist Peter Brown who created covers for various Iain Banks (without the middle initial M) titles 1990-2001. [DRL]
