(? - ) US author whose fantasies, which she identifies as Christian (see Religion), begin with the Follower of the World sequence; the first volume Daughter of Light(2012) [her fantasy series are not listed below] typically features a young woman summoned to submit her Psi Powers to bring her folk to the eponymous Light. Busse is of greater sf interest for two series. In the Equipoisal Soul Chronicles sequence beginning with Mark of the Raven (2018), a young woman seeks out a medical solution to an inner Psi Power whose supernatural use is gradually killing her. The Skyworld sequence of Steampunk tales beginning with Secrets in the Mist (2021) is set in a world where deadly mists have isolated humans on the heights, where they struggle with Overpopulation by methods the protagonists disapprove of. Airships sound the depths of the mist, as though they were exploring Under the Sea. In Blood Secrets (2022) the female protagonist must decide whether or not to sacrifice herself in order to save the world. [JC]
