Working name of Leonard W Compton (? - ), US author and illustrator who began to publish work of genre interest with "Whalesong" in Universe 1 (anth 1990) edited by Robert Silverberg and Karen Haber; another early story is "When the Ship Came" (December 1994 Tomorrow). In his Alternate History tale, Russian Amerika (2007), the Jonbar Point is the continuing rude health of the (historical) Russian-American Company under Our Highest Protection after 1807, so that Russia still owns part of a balkanized North America at the end of the twentieth century. The story continues in the sequel Alaska Republik (2011). The action in the Prefecture series, starting with Incident in Alaska Prefecture (2017), takes place in North America after the Allies lost World War Two (see Hitler Wins). [JC/DRL]
