(1956-2001) US poet, author and Small Press publisher whose first poem, "Denouement", appeared in Logos in 1974, and who published frequently and variously until his premature death, much of this work appearing in Anamnesis Press, which he founded in 1990, and thorough which he also published work by James Blish, Arthur C Clarke, Lord Dunsany and Joe Haldeman [see Checklist below]. His poetry – assembled in volumes like What Rough Book: Dark Poems and Light (coll 1992 chap; vt Dyscrasias: Selected Poems 1995 chap), Satan Is a Mathematician: Poems of the Weird, Surreal, and Fantastic (coll 1998 chap) and Shimmarie and Other Poems (coll 2000 chap) – is conservative, technically sophisticated, often comical; the range of topics runs a gamut from metaphorical conceits to literal sf.
