Donnell, D

Entry updated 28 February 2026. Tagged: Artist.

Written D/Donnell: the usual signature of Dolly Donnell (1906-1994), US artist and wife of A J Donnell, who contributed some finely inked black-and-white interior artwork to 1940s SF Magazines. These began with three illustrations for "Strangers on the Heights" (Summer 1944) Startling Stories by Manly Wade Wellman. Further such work appeared in Thrilling Wonder Stories for Summer 1944 and Summer 1946, and again Startling Stories for Fall 1944. This modest output is noted here for clarification, since a misreading of the byline D/Donnell may be the source of so far unverified reports that A J Donnell himself made early contributions to the professional magazines.
